Coaches Denton and Box Announce Shield Squad...

Coaches John Denton and Graham Box have selected their squad for the Europa Shield 2018 which is taking place in Lisbon, Portugal on the 26-29th January.

The squad is as follows.

Males: Andy Hall Billy Ashby Blake Palfreyman Davesh Patel Joe Bedford Kieron Hicks

Females: Amie Swain Ana Rocha Chloe Swain Heather Ikwuemesi Helen West Kenzie Baldock Jess Bennett Jo-Anne Wilson

We caught up with Coach Denton who told us:

“I’m looking forward to heading out to the shield with a strong squad that has a great mixture of experienced players who have competed at the highest level, alongside some future Bec stars. Preparation for the tournament is going really well, and as defending champions we will be looking to bring home another gold medal.”

It is with regret that we have to announce that Ben King has been excluded from the squad due to injury. He is set to have surgery on his knee in the new year following a nasty fall in the game against Tornadoes in November. We wish him the speediest of recoveries and are pleased that he has agreed to join the coaching team for the tournament.

Bec Korfball Club is the most successful British side in the history of the Europa Shield. On Bec's first attempt in 2015, they squad became Europa Shield champions for the first team after a convincing victory against German side Pegasus in the final. The following year a narrow loss against KC Barcelona meant the team took silver but in 2017 the team returned to winning ways beating German side Schweriner in golden goal to take the trophy.

We are very excited to be heading back to the Shield and to Lisbon and want to wish the squad the best of luck. If you are interested in coming out to Lisbon to support the squad then please contact a member of the committee.
